Ghost Mascot is the twentieth episode of Dude, That's My Ghost! It aired March 3, 2013, along with Rock 'n' Home

Synopsis[]

When Spencer tries out for the school wrestling team to fulfill his athletics requirement, Ponzi is determined to see him fail so that he’ll have to enroll in the principal’s “Ponz-aerobics” class. Billy promises to protect him from Ponzi’s mischief, but that’s before Billy realizes that if he puts on the school mascot costume, he can perform for the audience, despite his invisibility. With Billy finally getting the attention he craves, he doesn’t even notice Spencer being brutalized (with Ponzi’s encouragement). Will Billy notice before it’s too late?

Plot[]

Spencer is reading a list of electives from a bulletin board as Billy gives his opinions on each one, eventually saying that they are sound awesome. Spencer says that at his old school, the phys. Ed. Requirement was a bummer, but Beverly Beverly High had much more fun-sounding options. Spencer is about to sign one of the forms when Principal Ponzi pushes another form in front of him and announces that Spencer has signed up for “Ponz-aerobics.” Spencer tries to inform Ponzi that he is actually signing up for something else, but Ponzi quickly pulls all the forms off the bulletin board and crumbles them up, saying that all the other classes must be full.

In Ponzi’s class, Billy seems to be enjoying the exercises while Spencer is less than amused. When Spencer tries to leave, Ponzi informs him that he gets paid extra to teach PE, Spencer is his only students, and all the other classes are full. Two teachers then run through with a gurney, announcing an injured wrestler. Spencer cheers, to the offense of the student and teachers, and apologizes. The teachers confirm that there was an opening on the wrestling team that Spencer could try out for, and Spencer leaves Ponzi’s class. Although Ponzi can’t see him, Billy asks to continue the workout.

Spencer makes a dramatic entrance to his tryout as his wrestling persona “the Bone Doctor” while Billy controls the lights from above and cheers him on. The coach reacts negatively, which Spencer assumes is because the team already had a wrestler with a similar team, but the coach tells Spencer that this is real wrestling which is not like TV and that he’ll have to take off the costume. Ponzi then arrives and informs the coach that he will be overseeing Spencer’s tryout, which she allows him to do. Spencer hears Rajeev cheering him on from the bleachers and walks up to him and Shanilla, asking why there was such a big crowd. Rajeev informs him that Ponzi cancelled all the other activities of the day and invited everyone in the school to see Spencer fail. Billy comes up next to Spencer and remarks about the size of the crowd. Spencer tells him that they have a problem and pulls him aside, where he explains that Ponzi is trying to sabotage him so that Spencer will rejoin his class. Billy insists that maybe they should and demonstrates how he feels he has benefitted from the class, but upon seeing Spencer’s blank expression promises to intervene “ghost style” if Spencer were to get in trouble. Spencer isn’t sure exactly what Billy means but trusts him and goes back to the floor.

Spencer smugly informs Ponzi that he’s ready to go, and Ponzi shows him that he’ll be going against Paula, who is texting and not looking up from her phone. Spencer is sure that he’ll take her down easily, but she stops him and says that if he were to touch her she would sue his entire family. When Spencer accuses her of bluffing, she tells him to see her legal team for himself. When Spencer looks away, she pushes him over the line and Ponzi blows his whistle, saying that Spencer had lost the round and would be going back to his class. Spencer protests and asks Ponzi to give him one more chance. When Ponzi refuses, Rajeev gets the crowd to chant “one more chance” and Ponzi gives in, hoping to see Spencer fail harder the next time.

Spencer walks into the locker room looking for Billy and finds him inside the mascot costume of “Bev the Bull.” When Spencer asks what he’s doing, Billy insists that Spencer shouldn’t get to do all the performing when performing was what “the Cobra” was meant to do. He walks out onto the floor in the costume and dances, making the crowd cheer. Spencer walks up to Billy and tersely reminds him that he’s supposed to be watching his back “ghost style,” which Billy insists that he’ll still be able to do. Ponzi shows Spencer his next opponent, Buddy, who appears to run away but shows up inside a cannon. Spencer calls out to Billy for help, but Billy is dancing in the bleachers and doesn’t notice. Buddy launches himself from the cannon and slams Spencer into the wall, Ponzi once again saying that Spencer lost and was out. The crowd once again chants for Spencer to have one more chance, and Ponzi obliges.

Billy comes up to Spencer and asks what happened to him, and Spencer yells at him for breaking his promise. Billy tells Spencer that he has to go to the locker room to “mentally prepare” for his next act and that he’ll help Spencer afterwards. Spencer’s next opponent is revealed to be iStevie, who presses a button on his phone activating a giant robot. Spencer runs away and once again calls out to Billy, who is in the locker room with headphones on. Feeling a heavy vibration from the robot stomping, Billy then suspects that someone must be stealing his spotlight. He dons the mascot suit again, rolls out onto the gym floor, and dances as Spencer is beat up by the robot. Kleet demands that Bev move out of the way so that he can see Spencer getting beat up and throws a rock at him. Billy pokes his head out of the suit, looks behind him, and realizes what’s happening to Spencer. Billy comes up to Spencer and attempts to apologize, but Spencer interrupts by asking him to help.

Billy goes back to the suit and climbs onto the robot, distracting it from beating up Spencer as the crowd cheers. Spencer frees himself from the robot’s grip and tries to wrestle iStevie’s phone out of his hand. Billy, having been thrown into the air by the robot, crashes down onto them and the phone flies out of iStevie’s hand, where the robot steps on and crushes it. The robot short circuits and starts targeting Bev, chasing after him and firing a laser. The crowd flees in fear and Ponzi demands that the robot stop destroying his gym (or at least target Spencer). Spencer asks iStevie how to stop the robot and learns that it must destroy its target. Billy has left the Bev suit and relizes that the robot is targeting the suit specifically because it can’t see him. He then kicks the head of the suit so that it lands on Ponzi, who is chased out of the gym by the robot. Spencer then tackles iStevie and pins him down long enough for Billy to blow the whistle and declare him the winner. Spencer and Billy both cheer.

At Spencer’s locker, Rajeev congratulates him for making the team, but Spencer informs him that wrestling was called off due to the gym being destroyed and that he’ll have to go back to Ponzi’s class. Billy then arrives and tells Spencer that there was an opening on the fencing team (as a student is wheeled by on a gurney) and that he signed Spencer up. Spencer asks Billy if he meant fencing or “extreme ninja sword combat” which he emerges in the outfit for, and Billy responds that that’s exactly what he meant as Spencer tries out some of his ninja moves.
